I currently own two of these little guys, I bought one as a kit and another one by itself. I really enjoy having the added stability of a tripod you could literally stick in your pocket or have at the ready at any point. You can get the phone adapter, make sure it works with your phone, or use it for your camera.
The simplicity is nice, you press in the red Manfrotto logo to adjust and the angle and the legs are basically open or closed. There is a newer version with a little more flexibility in terms of leg adjustments, the Manfrotto PIXI EVO 2-Section Mini Tripod.
Another option would be to go with a more flexible option like a GorillaPod but I really like the simplicity and ease of use of the Manfrotto. Never personally given a GorillaPod a try, probably would be a good contrast in terms of versatility and flexibility to the Manfrotto Pixi.
A tripod alternative I am really fascinated by is the Platypod, I would definitely want to go with the Max and the accessory kit. The biggest problem here would be a need to get a ball head to go with it and then I would also want to get a high-quality one and also some good traditional tripod legs. Too many things to think about and want, but a mini tripod under $20 seems like a solid choice to me.
